CNIB, Niagara Region
Vision Mate: 
Provide one-on-one sighted assistance and companionship for a person who is blind or partially sighted. Assist in activities of the client’s choosing, at his/her home or in the community, including reading, organizing, walking, running errands, and friendly visiting.  
(2-4 hours Monthly)  
 
Ambassador: 
Deliver presentations to community organizations, schools, senior centres and professional groups; represent CNIB at community information forums (health fairs); if you are a CNIB client, consider sharing your personal stories to raise awareness about vision loss, vision health, and CNIB.

Ambassador Assistant: 
Partnered with a CNIB Ambassador, directly assist someone who is blind or partially sighted with their community presentations. Drive client to determined location, help set up display and help to ensure things go smoothly.

Assist in shaping and implementing CNIB’s local strategies around Vision Health, Volunteer Support, Fundraising and Client Services. You can help CNIB build and maintain a strong community presence.

Distress Centre Niagara is a free confidential telephone support service that uses highly trained volunteer crisis responders to listen to callers' concerns, to assist callers with solving their own problems, to provide information and referrals where appropriate and to intervene in life threatening situations.

The Social Connections Program provides support to clients who are socially isolated.  
 
Position Summary: 
Trained volunteers will provide social interaction to those with mental illness. The Volunteer will meet regularly with the client(s) via telephone, Skype or email to encourage social connections. The objective is to promote, support and/or encourage independence the area of social skills while providing a listening ear to the concerns of the client. This role is non-clinical. 
 
Essential Job Functions:  
* Speak with clients on a weekly/biweekly basis to encourage social skills and/or to assist the client while on the waitlist for services at CMHA 
* Actively listen to client to develop a friendly, supportive relationship  
* Speak with client about various topics depending on their needs (social, leisure, etc.) 
* Provide encouragement and support to client in reaching program goals 
* Maintain privacy and confidentiality of client outside of reporting responsibilities with professional staff 
* Develop case notes after each meeting with client  
* Log hours and mileage 
 
Essential Job Requirements: 
* Able to provide support and encouragement to people experiencing mental health issues to enhance their quality of life
