Description (Service) | Offers services to deaf, deafened and hard of hearing individuals and their families and caregivers. Provides information on hearing health care, communication devices, support groups and general counselling and coping strategies for those with a hearing loss. General Support Services Program (GSS) offers case management to help consumers who need coordinated long-term support in the community. Supportive counselling is available to help individuals and their families find solutions to problems of everyday living. Restoration to enable independent functioning by providing coping strategies, information on communication devices and emotional support, as well as, referral services and consumer advocacy. Hearing Care Counselling Program (HCCP) assists hard of hearing adults (over 55 years of age) who are having difficulty hearing their family, caregivers and friends, the television or telephone, etc. Services provided include home visits, education, hearing help classes, and communication devices. The Hearing Care Counsellors are available by appointment only. Communication Devices Program: Carries a complete range of communication devices, including assistive listening devices, visual smoke alarms, amplified telephones, TTYs, and more. Can provide information needed to choose the product that best suits situation. Devices are ordered from head office in Toronto and shipped to the Hamilton office or other address, as specified. To book an interpreter, please contact the Ontario Interpreting Services (OIS) centralized scheduling centre in Ottawa. Request can be made in English, ASL, French, or LSQ.
