Description (Service) | This intensive treatment service is provided in a specialized classroom setting using small class sizes with treatment and education provided by a multi-disciplinary team. The service helps students who are unable to benefit from a regular school program because of their behavioural, emotional, and learning disorders that interfere with academic progress. Parents participate in treatment planning and family counselling. Children aged 6-13 years attend classrooms at the Merrittville site and youth aged 14-18 attend classrooms at five different high schools throughout the Niagara Region. The length of stay is determined by the individual treatment needs. The goal is to assist children/youth to improve their academic, behavioural and social competencies in order to re-integrate into the regular school setting and provide parents with the skills to support their children in coping with individual challenges. |
