|Service and Access Details|
|Description (Service)||A rock club whose purpose is to promote the collection of rocks, minerals, and fossils including micro-minerals and micro-fossils; to promote making jewellery, stone carving, and lapidary; and to promote the earth sciences, in particular geology and paleontology.
Activities include monthly meetings, potlucks, field trips, an AGM, an annual auction, an annual gem, mineral, & fossil show & sale (a GEOventure!), and an annual picnic - and sometimes some extra events.
The September meeting is a time to catch up on what's happened throughout the summer including showing off specimens that have been collected. Guest speakers attend regular meetings from October-April. The May meeting is the Annual Auction which provides the opportunity to increase or reduce ones' collection.
Publish a monthly (Sep-Apr/May, sometimes Jun) newsletter: The Pink Dolomite Saddle
A lending library is available for all members at the meetings @ Brock University. Members can also borrow various rockhounding equipment such as, a microscope, a rock splitter, a camera, a fluorescent lamp, a Geiger counter.
Outreach program (free) - 4 Touch Tables can be borrowed by anyone or any group:
1) Niagara Rocks! (can be split into 2 smaller Touch Tables)
2) Lava from around the World
3) Canadian Shield Treasures (can be split into 4 smaller Touch Tables)
4) Mini Table (extra specimens from the Jurassic to the Holocene - yes, one is a dinosaur bone!).

to collect minerals, crystals, gems, and fossils are usually scheduled on Fridays or Saturdays, April through October - and usually once per month - sometimes twice per month. Locations can range from a 1/2 hour up to a 6 hour drive. Some field trips are also weekend-long or week-long (and so, camping trips & more driving time).
Field Trip dates - as well as details, maps, and what you can find + Field Trip safety, rules, tools, and other stuff - are posted on the website, Facebook and in the Newsletter.
Email for field trips is: email@example.com
The CCFMS (Central Canadian Federation of Mineralogical Societies) also conducts field trips - usually 3 or 4 per year - of which many of our members also attend.
Some of the field trips are kid-friendly - meaning that all ages can participate. A parent is expected to accompany the child or children. All other field trips require participants to be 16 years or older.
ANNUAL GEM, MINERAL, and FOSSIL SHOW and SALE- a GEOventure!
takes place on the second Saturday in June - from 10 am until 5 pm - usually at Firemen's Park, Niagara Falls
More details for our show can be found on the website and on both Facebook pages. Email for show is: firstname.lastname@example.org
Either a Saturday or Sunday in June, July, or August (always after the show!) - often at Heartland Forest (one of our favourite spots plus there's loads to do @ Heartland) and can include a close-by field trip. BBQ picnic usually runs from 11 am-3 pm. If field trip is included, the picnic can go as late as 5 pm.
