Description (Service) | Civil ceremonies are non-religious ceremonies performed by the City Clerk or Designate and are legal, registered unions. Offered in the Council Chambers at City Hall. The ceremony may be performed at a location other than City Hall through arrangements with the City Clerk or Designate. Do not have to live in the City of St Catharines to have a ceremony performed. |

Application | * Ceremonies are performed by appointment only * Recommended to book at least two weeks in advance * A valid marriage licence is required Visit the City of St. Catharines Website to apply for your marriage licence online http://www.stcatharines.ca/en/livein/MarriageLicences.asp Marriage Licence Application requirements: * Two pieces of valid government issued identification must be presented from both applicants. Only original identification will be accepted. * One piece of identification must be an original birth certificate or valid passport Divorced Persons in Canada: * Must provide the original or court-certified copy of the Decree Absolute or Certificate of Divorce dissolving or annulling the marriage (Divorce Orders are not accepted) * Documents are available at the Ontario Court, Provincial Division in the municipality where the divorce was granted. The St. Catharines Provincial Court is located at 59 Church St. Divorced Persons Outside Canada: * Obtain a Foreign Divorce Package from City Hall which provides the process for obtaining a Foreign Divorce Approval |
