|Description (Service)||A program for low and modest income households in Niagara that funds: affordable housing repairs * housing modifications for persons with disabilities * and for the creation of a secondary suite in single family homes.
The total loan is provided as a fully forgivable loan, which is written off at an equal rate over a 10 or 15 year period. Maximum loan amount includes a grant portion for accessibility repairs, if required of up to $5,000 that does not need to be repaid.
Examples of eligible repairs include: structural (including building exterior such as roofs, foundations or walls) * plumbing * fire safety * electrical and/or heating
Examples of eligible work include: ramps * handrails and chair/bath lifts * height adjustment to counter tops * cues for doorbells/fire alarms
Some projects that are not eligible include: landscaping * routine maintenance * cosmetic renovations and repairs

|Eligibility||To qualify, existing homes must need repairs to bring them up to the minimum level of health and safety, and/or permanent modifications to increase accessibility for the occupant's disability. All repair work must include energy-saving products where possible.
Repairs must be started within 60 days of work approval. Work that is started prior to written approval by Niagara Regional Housing is not eligibile.
Inspections by Niagara Regional Housing must be allowed: * prior to the start of the work * during the construction (as required) * when the project is complete
|Application||* Complete an application and provide all supporting documentation such as proof of income, property tax assessment, Notice of Assessment, and insurance coverage. Applications can be obtained online at www.nrh.ca
* Sign a promissory note* and *Letter of Agreement*, if work is approved, outlining the scope of work, funding amount, and roles and responsibilities of both homeowner and Niagara Regional Housing
* The promissory note and Letter of Agreement will be registered on title by NRH (Niagara Regional Housing)
* When conditional approval is granted, obtain estimates from professional contractors and valid building permits and provide copies to Niagara Regional Housing
