Service and Access Details
Description (Service) A non profit club dedicated to the teaching of Kendo (Japanese Fencing) and Iaido (Sword Drawing). Students must be at least 8 years of age to begin this study. The club is affiliated with the Canadian Kendo Federation and Ontario Kendo Federation. All students start learning basic techniques (non-contact) with wooden swords. Once students demonstrate a solid grasp of the fundamentals, they begin contact practice with bamboo swords (shinai) and armour.
Iaido is completely non-contact. Students start with wooden swords and progress to metal swords as their skill develops. One can think of Iaido as a moving meditation. It requires concentration, focus and discipline.
