Brings people and resources together to strengthen and enhance quality of life for the people who are most vulnerable in the community. Through United Way one gift supports hundreds of essential local services.
United Way invests in solving our community's most complex social issues by moving people from poverty to possibility, building a strong community and helping children and youth realize their full potential. We ensure that adults and adults achieve housing, food and economic security; we ensure that people who are disabled, in crisis or isolated are connected to supports, their neighbourhood and community all the while increasing their personal well being; and we ensure that children are engaged in learning, connected to their community, are emotionally and physically well and have every opportunity to achieve success.
United Way offers the Seniors’ Health & Well-Being Fund which provides grants up to a total of $500 per person per calendar year. This fund is for low-income seniors above the age of 65 who are faced with health, medical and/or well-being challenges in the Niagara region. All requests must include two references attesting to: financial need (must be from a social worker or other social service expert) and a quote of service (must be from a qualified healthcare provider). The applicant must also prove that they have sought funding through social service channels first and that the Seniors’ Health & Well-Being Fund (a.k.a. Clara Crawford Fund) is a last resort. If the application is approved, funds will be paid directly to the healthcare provider. Please note, dental applications are not accepted through this fund. The total funding available is $20,000 per year across the Niagara region. Funding is offered on a first served basis.
United Way provides operational management of the Niagara Prosperity Initiative projects by conducting a Request for Proposal (RFP), administering contracts and monitoring project delivery. Also provides technology and communication supports and handles the logistical and administrative needs of the Niagara Poverty Reduction Network.
