Public Comments | Services altered due to COVID-19 The majority of staff from our offices will be working off-site until further notice. Please refer to the staff directory for contact information or email us at necgeorgetown@ontario.ca or necowensound@ontario.ca and we will respond as soon as possible. We are also making the following changes in operations and programs effective immediately: Office closures: Our offices in Georgetown and Owen Sound are closed to the public. Commission meetings The Niagara Escarpment Commission has implemented a process to deliberate a select number of items via virtual Commission meetings. For more information on scheduling and items moving forward, please continue to monitor updates posted on the Commission Meetings section of our website Development Permit Applications: The Niagara Escarpment Commission is continuing to accept new Development Permit applications electronically. Once all information is received, we will work to process them, but there may be delays due to COVID-19. For Development Permit Applications that have received conditional approval, the NEC will issue a Development Permit when all conditions have been addressed. The Niagara Escarpment Commission will be issuing Notices of Decision for Development Permit applications pertaining to essential services only. Decisions on all other Development Permit applications will be postponed until the Emergency Order has been lifted. For a list of essential services outlined by the Government of Ontario, visit https://www.ontario.ca/page/list-essential-workplaces Due to operational constraints during this pandemic, the average response time for inquiries may be up to 5 business days. The Commission fulfills the following responsibilities: * to promote the objectives of the Niagara Escarpment Plan (NEP) * to process and make decisions on development permit applications * to review and comment on all proposed developments within the Plan Area and intervene at hearings if Plan policies are substantially threatened * to process and make recommendations on proposed NEP amendments * to assist the Minister and municipalities in achieving conformity of local official plan documents and municipal by-laws * to assist the Minister in monitoring NEP implementation * to provide a Plan interpretation role |
