S.L.A.M. Program Volunteer [ More info ]
The position of Sunshine, Learning Achievement & More (S.L.A.M.) Program Volunteer supports the Learning Disabilities Association of Niagara Region’s summer program for children and youth (ages 6 -12) with learning difficulties and/or AD(H)D. This program is designed to motivate and help children gain confidence and academic success in reading and writing as well as make social skills gains. Children spend half the day on engaging, hands-on literacy and social skills activities and the remaining half on recreational activities, sports and crafts. It is also designed to help volunteers gain knowledge and experience in working with children who experience difficulties learning essential academic and social skills. Therefore this position is responsible for assisting in the coordination, safety, delivery, evaluation and supervision of the S.L.A.M. Summer Program.
The Summer program is conducted in St. Catharines, Welland and Niagara Falls during the months of July and August 2013.
The S.L.A.M. Program Volunteer:
Assists the head facilitator and facilitators with the delivery of the Summer SLAM program;
Promotes safety of participants during all the program activities;
Motivates and encourage participants in achieving their goals;
Takes initiative when assisting staff and interacting with participants;
Length of Appointment: Is available Monday to Friday from 8:45am-4:15pm.

*MANDATORY TRAINING*
Training for this position will take place on Wednesday, June 26th from 12:00pm – 4:00pm. In addition, the Program Coordinator and Program Facilitators are available on an ongoing basis to answer questions and provide assistance as needed.

Volunteers are needed to fill the following positions;
Safety Boat Driver:
Requirements: Must have a pleasure craft operators certificate and must be attentive and respond quickly.
Description: Responsible for being attentive during regattas, assisting athletes when in need and transporting athletes on the water that need to be transported to the medical tent for medical assistance.
Official Boat Driver:
Requirement: Must have a pleasure craft operators certificate and must be able to follow direction as well as respond quickly.
Description: Driving officials during the race to monitor the athletes.
Weigh-in:
Description: Provide assistance to weigh in officials with checking athletes identification and weighing athletes.
Control Commission:
Description: Assist the officials with calling crews to the water, as well as handing out and collecting bow numbers.
Start Assistance:
Description: Assist the officials with the starting of the race and relay messages to the officials at the finish line.
Finish Assistant:
Description: Assist the timing officials with tracking crews as they cross the finish line and with printing results.
Dock Marshall:
Description: Directing boat traffic at the docks.
Runner:
Description: Posting the results after races and passing information along between officials.
Boat Holders:
Description: Holding the boats in place and following direction of the aligning official at the start of each race.

IlluminAqua concert dates are May 17-18, June 14-15, July 5-6, August 2-3, and August 30-31
Bartenders: *Must be 18 years of age or older and have their smartserve certification with them. Must have knowledge of basic mixed drinks. Must be comfortable with checking ID's when unsure of age. Bartenders will be required to greet and serve patrons in a friendly manner as well as serve alcoholic beverages during the festivals.
Gate Attendant: Gate attendants are required to scan IlluminAqua tickets as the attendees arrive for the night performances. Wristbands are to be attached to the wrists of everyone who is attending. This person must serve the patrons in a friendly manner.
Merchandise Clerk: It is the job of the merchandise clerk to sell the provided merchandise to the concert attendees. This person must be able to serve the patrons in a friendly manner. Duties include making change, doing an inventory of merchandise, and allocating the funds to artist at the end of the show.
Maintenance: The maintenance crew is required to assist in hanging up sponsorship banners, fences, posting signage, setting up tents/bars etc. as well as clean up of the site. You may also be required to set up and tear down the event.
Loaders: This person will be assisting with loading and unloading the band equipment and assisting with set up and tear down of the stage throughout the day.

Drink Ticket Seller: *Must be comfortable checking ID's. This person will be required to sell drink tickets to those of legal drinking age. You will be responsible for handling .

Duties include interacting with the public, promoting adoptions, cleaning and tending to our many cats and kittens. Set-up & Event Assistance [ More info ]
SETUP: This group must be able to lift/move heavy objects. The shift will start promptly at 7am and will finish at 10:30am. We need help setting up tents and will need assistance in setting up the obstacle course which
involves moving tires, balance beams, and building other structures. We require 20 people to assist. .
EVENT: There are four (4) areas to assist during the event:
1. “Kids Zone” this includes taking money/greeting children and assisting with carnival games, bouncer and crafts.
2. Lunch: we need volunteers to take donations for food and help hand out wraps/drinks/fruit to participants.
3. Parking: assist our guests in where to park and to ensure they slow down and keep the area safe for our participants. 4. Obstacles! We need volunteers to cheer/encourage our participants and help them at each obstacle.
Volunteers will be needed from 10am - 2:30pm

Volunteers are needed at a brand new event to Niagara. The FirstOntario Kids Ultimate Challenge is a 1K Obstacle course for children between the ages of 4-14.
