DutiesHandler's own animal to visit with clients at St Catharines locations. Pet and handler teams may engage in AAA (Animal Assisted Activity) or AAT (Animal Assisted Therapy). Teams must be evaluated prior to visiting. Evaluations are held approximately every two months. Commitment LengthMinimum of six weeks. (Generally six visits in a session two weeks off, then a re-start.)
TrainingPet and handler team must successfully complete the evaluation process before being accepted into the BISHPet program.  
 
Completion of mandatory online training modules in collaborative problem solving, health and safety, setting limits and maintaining boundaries within three months of start date is required.

Skills/ExperienceMust have good understanding of pet behaviour, recognize signs of stress in pet, an ability to manage pet kindly while interacting with clients.
Additional RequirementsDogs, cats and other domestic animals may qualify. There is a booklet available that details the entire evaluation process and the veterinary and equipment requirements.  
 
Evaluations are generally held every other month. Complete simple paperwork requirement including signing-in and completing a short online visit report after visit, as well as a willingness to communicate scheduling requirements and/or concerns to staff in a timely manner.
