| Duties | Mentor a child one hour per week, during school hours. Be a positive and supportive role model to a child. All visits occur during the school year and on school property. Meet with your 'mentee' one hour per week and engage in fun, social activities - such as games, gym time, reading, puzzles, computers, crafts, baking etc. This minimal time investment will have a lifetime impact on a child. A little time can make a BIG difference. You can check out this short video for more information: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFpnBFi8AH8&list=UUWGY2uzEzSVjXt5m5xndBOQ&index=1&feature=plcp | |||
| Benefits | Children participating in this program have shown improved relationships with their teachers, classmates, siblings, and parents. Others have shown improvements academically. We have seen increases in children's level of happiness, as well as increased self-esteem and confidence. Studies have shown that mentored children are less likely to bully other children (both on the schoolyard and off), and are less likely to abuse alcohol or drugs. | |||
