| Description | The hospital has available both in-patient and out-patient treatment for persons with psychiatric problems. The in-patient psychiatric unit has 26 beds used for patients requiring short-term treatment of an acute problem. An emergency psychiatric service is available 24 hours per day in conjunction with the hospital emergency room. ADULT MENTAL HEALTH CLINIC: Provides assessment, including that of the patient's family if indicated; diagnosis and treatment of mental health disorders in adults and their families. Treatment may include psychotherapy, counselling and medication. CHILD AND ADOLESCENT MENTAL HEALTH CLINIC: Provides assessment, diagnosis and treatment of mental health disorders in children and their families. GNGH DISCOVERY PROGRAM: An out-patient program providing mental health services to adults living in the community. Referrals may be self-referrals, from family, community agencies, and health care professionals. While specific treatment focus is individualized, guided group exercises are the primary tools of change. COMMUNITY CRISIS CARE: A crisis program for individuals who are experiencing a psychiatric crisis. Provides initial assessment for the immediate problem then refers the individuals to the appropriate organizations in the community that can provide ongoing support or treatment if necessary. | |||
