DescriptionProvides settlement services, free support and information to meet the needs of new immigrants and refugees. 
 
SETTLEMENT SERVICES 
Helps newcomers, immigrants and refugees settle in our community 
 
Settlement Program (formerly Immigrant Settlement and Adaptation Program) -- services to enable immigrants and refugees to integrate into Canadian society including orientation programs, language and skills training to help facilitate employment, and programs to welcome newcomers to the community * individual agencies may provide needs and eligibility assessments, pre- and post-arrival information and referral, job search and employment counselling, assistance to establish social and professional networks to promote community engagement, and assistance to access a range of settlement services 
* Provides information on Citizenship and Immigration Canada programs 
* Helps completing forms such as work permit / study, application for permanent residence in Canada and Citizenship 
* Explains the processes and documents needed for immigration 
 
Newcomer Settlement Program 
* Provides information and referrals, helps correctly fill out various forms of government 
* Provides supportive counseling 
* Assists with problem solving 
* Assists with all processes involved in settlement for refugees and immigrants 
 
Refers clients to the following professional services: Legal Aid, lawyers, Ontario Works, doctors, ESL, employment services and other community organizations. 
 
Orientation to the community

Customer support from other agencies

ENGLISH COURSES 
Offers the LINC program (Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada) and English as a Second Language (ESL) for adults. For more information, contact the ESL Coordinator at 905-685-6589, extension 242. 
 
LINKS WITH THE COMMUNITY 
As part of the initiative "Welcoming Communities", newcomers receive help to establish social and professional networks that will enable them to integrate into their community and to feel welcome. Canadian volunteers and immigrants participate together in social events and conversation circles to help immigrants develop language skills and knowledge of our community. The program helps newcomers to Canada make contacts with Canadian volunteers for cultural exchange and professional support during the settlement process. YOUTH SERVICES 
The program offers many opportunities for young immigrants aged 13 to 24 years to make friends, learn more about their community and participate in various activities such as youth group, cooking classes, sports and arts. The program provides support to young people including: application for admission to university or college, tutors, resumes, how to find a job, educational workshops, finding volunteer work in the community etc. Services are available Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 4:30, Wednesdays until 6pm. Regular programs are held in the evenings, weekends and in the summer.

CROSSROADS PROGRAM

PROGRAM: EMPLOYMENT SERVICES FOR NEWCOMERS 
As part of the initiative "Access to the Labor Market", newcomers get the help they need to find employment to match their skills and level of education. This program helps determine the employment needs of clients, job search steps and plans for the future. WELCOME CENTRE 
The Welcome Center provides information and referrals to services, community and government programs that help newcomers settle. It provides access to fax, photocopier, computers and the internet as well as to professional multilingual staff who are available to help newcomers. 
 
COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS MENTORSHIP PROGRAM (formerly HOST Program) -- group activities for newly arrived immigrants and refugees of all ages to help orient them to their new community and establish social and professional networks * trained and experienced volunteer mentors assist, with focus on citizenship and civic engagement or skills and career development 
 
The Centre offers rooms for rent in the evenings and weekends. Robertson Hall is available for large groups and classrooms for small groups. The Hall has two floors and a full kitchen. For more information, call 905-685-6589 ext 232, or email robertsonhall@folk-arts.ca.

Job Search Workshops (JSW): migration status must be one of the following: Landed Immigrant * Convention Refugee * Intent-to-Land * Live-in Caregiver * ready, willing and able to work in Canada * must have basic English language communication ability
