DescriptionThe Crown Attorney's Office is responsible for conducting prosecutions of offenses in their district under the Criminal Code of Canada and other federal statutes such as the Young Offenders Act. Prosecutions are also conducted under provincial statutes. Crown Attorneys and their assistants choose the appropriate charge on which to proceed, consider the release of prisoners pending trial and conduct trials at all levels of court. Crown Attorneys also advise the police, lawyers and the public on general matters related to the administration of Justice. 
 
Crown witnesses are only paid a transportation allowance. Within city - no compensation; compensated for mileage for out-of-town travel. Assistants to the Crown Attorney are: Tom Jacob, Stacey Sheehan, Grace Pang, Holly Nickel, Richard Monette, Jacqueline Strecansky and Sylvia Clermont.
