| Description | A multiservice agency offering a wide variety of services and programs to support children, youth, families and adults in the community. Mandated by the Child and Family Services Act to respond to any concerns regarding the possible abuse or neglect of children * also provide a variety of community programs such as counselling, parent drop in centres, toy lending, preschool programs and child care, support to adults who have a developmental disability CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION and INTERVENTION: investigation, protection, prevention and treatment programs for children and their families ADOPTION SERVICES: placement, supervision of children on adoption, post-adoption counselling services * assistance to adult adoptees in determining their birth identity FOSTER CARE: alternative care for children who require this intervention * recruitment and training of foster families * provision of support services to foster families * families interested in fostering can call 905-937-7731 REGIONAL ADOLESCENT CENTRE: a home-like residential setting providing supervision and an activity-based treatment program for youth in care NEW OUTLOOKS AND BEGINNINGS: prepares youth leaving the care of FACS to live independently * counselling, life skills training, and concrete assistance PREGNANCY and AFTER CARE SERVICES: counselling and support for single parents before and after the birth of their child SUMMER SMILES: camp and day activity programs for disadvantaged children VOLUNTEERS: provide support to professional staff including volunteer driving, office work, tutoring, interpreting, child care program assistant, special friend/mentor FAMILY COUNSELLING CENTRE: a voluntary service that is the Family Service Ontario agency for the Niagara Region * support and therapy groups * prevention and education programs * professional counselling for individuals, families and children * Side by Side, Moms' and Children's Program - a parallel group treatment program for children and their mothers * For Me And My Mom - a parenting group for survivors of spousal assault * for children aged 4-16 and their mothers who have experienced woman abuse * available throughout the Region * assistance with transportation may be available * call 905-937-7731 ext 3390 or 1-888-937-7731 ext 3390 * also available in French at Centre de Sante Communautaire, tel 905-734-1141 * Partner Assault Response Group - a domestic violence group for men * Caring Dads - a parenting group for men who abuse or neglect their children CHILD CARE PROGRAMS: programs for children aged 18 months to school age * provide a meaningful, safe, enjoyable experience for children ONTARIO EARLY YEARS CENTRE: a family resource drop-in centre located in Welland with satellites in Fenwick and at West Niagara Family Centre in Grimsby TOY LENDING LIBRARY and OEYC MOBILE RESOURCE PROGRAM: lend educational toys, games, books and tapes to families to promote healthy growth of children and positive parent-child relationships * parent and play groups provide an educational and supportive forum to parents FUNDRAISING: The Niagara Foundation for Family and Children's Services supports FACS by raising funds for initiatives such as summer camp, education bursaries, building and renovation projects to benefit local families and children in need | |||
