DescriptionSETTLEMENT PROGRAM (formerly Immigrant Settlement and Adaptation Program) -- services to enable immigrants and refugees to integrate into Canadian society including orientation programs, language and skills training to help facilitate employment, and programs to welcome newcomers to the community * individual agencies may provide needs and eligibility assessments, pre- and post-arrival information and referral, job search and employment counselling, assistance to establish social and professional networks to promote community engagement, and assistance to access a range of settlement services 
 
NEWCOMER SETTLEMENT SERVICES: Settlement and orientation for immigrants and refugees: Information and referral to community and government programs and services * assistance with immigration process * group sessions on settlement-related topics * citizenship classes * information on credential assessment, housing and shelter, health services, legal issues and human rights * access to fax, photocopier, computers and internet * assistance filling out government forms * Commissioner of Oaths for original documents * emergency shelter for refugees as they enter Canada * English-as-a-Second-Language Classes * job search training, networking and mentorship opportunities 
 
VOLUNTEERS: offers a variety of positions for volunteers 
 
FAMILY LAW EDUCATION AND SUPPORT: Family Law Education and Support is a region-wide program that provides much needed assistance and support to Newcomers who are exhibiting signs of frustration and abuse, who are in abusive relationships, and who are in need of education regarding abuse and Canadian laws surrounding abuse. The program also provides workshops to community agencies about working with newcomers who are experiencing domestic violence. As well, the program offers workshops and information sessions to newcomers about laws in Canada and abuse. The program is open to men and women and is free of charge (hours of operation are flexible.) Contact Laura Caballero for more information.
