| Description | A fundraising agency to provide funds to meet vital community needs. Ensures donations are spent efficiently and effectively in response to current and emerging human services needs of the community. Promotes the development of needed community services. Generates community support and commitment for United Way and its participating organizations. Provides organizational support services to voluntary organizations in the community.
Ontario Trillium Foundation, Niagara Community Foundation and the United Way have pooled some resources to provide small amounts of seed capital which can be leveraged by the large amount of energy and enthusiasm found in local nieghbourhoods. The Niagara Neighbourhood Idea Fund has funded such ideas as a community garden, a street event, a video, a food partnership etc. They are looking for ideas that strengthen neighbourhoods, increase community participation and engage volunteers acoss the Niagara Region. Grants ranging from $500-$2500 are available to community groups. This is a matching initiative: money requested by groups must be matched by their own in-kind resources and/or cash. Volunteer labour is also considered and in-kind resource. To apply, complete the application at www.unitedwayniagara.org.
