| Description | Distributes food, good used clothing, small household articles to residents facing financial challenges Assistance for emergency prescription expenses, dental (cleaning/scaling not covered) and vision care contingent upon available funds * assistance is provided on a limited case by case basis when funds are available The Christmas Bureau provides new toys (age specific) and grocery vouchers. Life Skills training includes Savoury Samplings Program, Community Gardens, and a preserves/canning program. Collection of cash register tapes from Zehrs for the save a tape program. Also offers the Snacks & Sneakers program in late August (backpacks and school supplies while supplies last) Shelter issues are addressed through ComunityCare's Housing Help Program. Call 905 984-8955. Trusteeships are provided to those experiencing money management issues. Administers the Canadian Tire Jumpstart program for St Catharines. Jumpstart provides financially disadvantaged children, aged 4-18 years, with the opportunity to participate in sports and recreational activities. Call 905-685-1349 ext 228 for more information. PROJECT ZERO - Free combination smoke detector/carbon monoxide detector. St Catharines Fire Services, Enbridge Gas and the Fire marshal's Public Fire Safety Council have joined forces to offer this program which will see more than 300 smoke alarm/carbon monoxide detectors installed in St Catharines homes of residents who may not have the resources to purchase and install them. Applications are available at Community Care of St Catharines and Thorold, 12 North St and at the St Catharines Fire Prevention office at 8 Academy St. |
