| Description | The Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Care Centre (SA/DVCC) provides specialized healthcare for adolescents over the age of 18, women, transgendered persons, and men who have experienced sexual assault and/or domestic violence. Our vision is to ensure comprehensive health care is provided with sensitivity and privacy for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. The SA/DVCC is a regional centre which provides immediate care, the collection of forensic evidence, forensic photography, risk assessment, safety planning, resources/community referrals, follow-up medical treatment and supportive counselling. Sexual Assault Victims of sexual assault ages 18 and over should present to one of Hamilton Health Sciences Emergency Departments serving adults - Juravinski Hospital and Hamilton General Hospital. (NOTE: Victims of sexual assault ages 18 and over cannot access the program through the Emergency Department at McMaster University Medical Centre. McMaster Emergency is for children only.) Domestic Violence Woman over the age of 16 who have experienced a recent incident of physical domestic violence perpetrated by a current or past intimate partner should present to one of Hamilton Health Sciences Emergency Departments serving adults - Juravinski Hospital and Hamilton General Hospital. Service is available 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Specialized healthcare by a team of nurses and social workers with training and experience in caring for survivors of domestic violence. Services include: * Assessment and treatment of physical injuries * Documentation and photographs of injuries will be noted if survivor wishes. This documentation may be used in legal proceedings. * Information about and referral to community agencies including shelters and counselling services * Safety planning and risk assessment * Reporting to the police is the decision of the survivor. (Hospital staff will not report to the police without the permission of the survivor.) * A cultural interpreter will be arranged, if needed.
